THE JOYS OF QUILTING and A GIVE AWAY!

I have been busy quilting DH's Vintage Tin quilt.  On most of the embroidered panels I am quilting cross hatching.  I mark the quit with my Clover hera marker.  While I don't like marking quilts, it has to be done sometimes.  Especially on straight lines.  The hera marker puts a dent in the fabric without putting a colored mark on it.  You can see the dent in the picture below.

This shows more of the cross hatch quilting already done on the second embroidered panel.  Now, I'm working on the outer border of flying geese.

At one point where I had to stop for either putting in a new bobbin or some other reason, I couldn't find one of my quilting gloves.  I was quilting along and noticed that the quilt seemed thicker in one spot and thought I better see what was going on.  My glove got quilted onto the back of the quilt!  That is one of the "joys" of quilting.

Now for important things!  I'm having a GIVE-AWAY to celebrate my 700th post!!!  I started blogging in 2008 and have had a lot of fun with it.  I've learned so much from other bloggers, gotten encouragement, ideas and fun!  Seeing what other quilters are doing is amazing.  So, I want to have the give-away to express my appreciation to my readers.  I remember the first comment I got and also how excited when I received a comment from outside our country!  Quilters are the best!

The prize that someone will win is a 24" square of labels and 2 yards of fabric from my Etsy shop.  You can go to my Etsy shop by clicking on it in my sidebar and see the fabrics that I have for sale there in the "fabrics" section.  I don't have a huge selection, but maybe there is something that you can use.

I will have the giveaway open for 5 days and will select the winner on Feb. 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM Pacific time.  A second winner will get a panel of the labels.  Just leave a comment on this post and tell me approximately how long you have been blogging and just one thing you have enjoyed the most from other bloggers.

  1. Oh no! Poor glove, unhappy quilter! Yes, been there and done that too. Your hera marks are showing up remarkably well, they are a wonderful tool for marking solid fabrics. Congratulations on 700 posts! I've only been blogging since 2012 and have met so many sweet, encouraging and helpful friends through our quilting bloggers community. And that's the best part, we Are a community!

  3. Congratulations on the 700th post. Whoo whoo!! This is a long milestone in the making but such an accomplishment to cross. I have been blogging since 2014 and what still surprises me today is how bloggers are willing to share; their stories, their suggestions, their experiences. Love it! If it hadn't been for my blogger's friends, a certain quilt would never had been given to a needy family due to a bleeding fabric. They helped me fix the problem. I so appreciate every comment.
I wish you many, many more posts on your blog. I love coming here. ;^)

  6. Wow, 700 posts is quite a milestone! Congratulations! I've been blogging here since 2010 and before that on American Patchwork and Quilting when they had blogs on their site. I think the best part of blogging is learning from each other. I have learned a lot from all the people I follow. And, it is fun!

Love your quilting. Cross hatching is my go to for quilting. Too bad about the glove, but it is funny. I've sewn a few things to the back of my quilts, too. I got my Route 66 fabric on Tuesday and it will be fun to make into a quilt top.

    Love reading your posts!

  7. Gosh that time has gone in a flash and it's been a joy sharing in your quilting journey - from the wonderful quilts, dolly ones, table mats as well as the quilt shows and beautiful scenery. At least it was only a few finger tips of the glove.

  8. Congratulations on 700 blogs!I am not a blogger myself, but I love to read the blogs of quilters all over the world. It's amazing how inspiring it is to see all the beautiful quilts passing by. Because I like to react when something amazes or inspires me I have met interesting women, found friends and it's wonderful to exchange ideas and fabric.

  9. Oh that glove...I giggled for you. A guild member did something similar not too long ago...but she quilted part of another project to the back! Congrats on 700 posts, quite an accomplishment! (And you can leave my name off the drawing...give someone else a better chance!)

  11. Hello Ruth, First and foremost, I love your embroidery work . . . that is so original. I have to admit that I have been a follower for awhile now, but I haven't visited in sometime. Therefore; I don't feel good about being entered, although it is a wonderful and generous give-a-way. I had to laugh at the glove (sorry about that) It is something that I would do, LOL. I've been blogging since January 6, 2012 and the best part of blogging is the friendships and the knowing that no matter where women are in the world, we all have home and family as priority in our lives. Care-giving is universal to us, whether we live in a cottage, a cabin, a mansion or a tent. Women and love are one in the same.
I've just posted a banner that goes perfectly with your quilt, please come visit and take a look.
Here's wishing you a lovely weekend.
    Connie :)

  12. I've stitched lots of things onto the back of a quilt, but I don't think it was ever a glove. Hope you didn't ruin the glove! We've been friends since way back in 2008 when I also started blogging. I'm so glad I got to know you in person, not just online. Didn't we have just the neatest APQ Blogging Buddies gang? I'm so glad several of us are still blogging together! Leave me out of the drawing too, since I won one of your drawings a while back. Keep on blogging! I always enjoy seeing what you are working on! ---"Love"

  14. What a wonderful achievement of 700 posts. Congratulations. I did laugh about the glove, having done other similar "fun" things myself. My blogging life began around 2012 I think, and it has been a wonderful way to meet so many quilters from different parts of the world. I have made some new friends and gleaned so much great advice and encouragement. Thank you for your blogging. I enjoy your diversity.

  15. I had to LOL about the glove! I've done that before and it is so annoying. Nice to know I'm not the only one. I love my hera marker! Your quilt is looking really good.
I would love to win the labels as I always label my quilts.

  16. I think that I have been blogging since 2008 as well, but I don't post much. Just don't have that much interesting to say. As I have gotten older, my list of friends has gotten much smaller. Online friends and/or blogs keeps me in touch. Keep up the good work!!

  17. I have been blogging since 2012 and what I love is the friendships that develop. I have a few blogs that I read faithfully and we share our progress and techniques and cheer each other on. it is almost like quilting with a cuppa and your best friends. they have sent me garden plants and finished gifts and also gifted me with fabric when I needed a certain color. I have done the same for them and I look forward to seeing what they are up to each day. those labels look like fun. congrats on your 700th post!
